Chartered Educational Psychologist working collaboratively with children, families, schools and local authorities.
About Me
I am a Chartered Educational Psychologist and Founding Director of Moss Inclusive Psychology, with vast experience working across schools, local authorities, and with children, young people and their families.
I am passionate about working collaboratively to develop a shared understanding of a child or young person’s strengths and needs. I aim to apply psychology in a practical and creative way, supporting those around the child to feel confident in how best to help them.
Professional background
I completed my BSc (Hons) in Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University, during which time I volunteered with the National Autistic Society as a befriender.
Following this, I worked as an Inclusion Support Worker with Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils experiencing social, emotional and mental health needs. I then undertook a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Lincolnshire and went on to teach in primary education, working closely with children with special educational needs.
I later completed my Doctorate in Applied Educational Psychology at the University of Nottingham. My doctoral research explored the impact of a group-based Motivational Interviewing approach on pupil self-esteem and was later published as a book chapter.
Experience
Since qualifying in 2010, I have worked across several local authorities, gaining experience from Early Years through to Post-16. My most recent role was as a Senior Practitioner Educational Psychologist within a large local authority, with a specialism in Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).
I have extensive experience in:
Assessment, consultation and systems work
Supporting complex casework across a range of needs
Education, Health and Care needs assessments
I now work full time in an independent capacity as a Chartered Educational Psychologist, leading Moss Inclusive Psychology.
Wider work and interests
Alongside my core Educational Psychology work, I also:
Deliver training for professionals, including Therapeutic Storywriting
Provide professional supervision for Educational Psychologists and school staff
Work directly with children and young people where appropriate
I am particularly interested in narrative and story-based approaches, and have completed Level 1 training in Narrative Therapy. I often draw on these approaches in my work, supporting children and young people to explore their experiences and develop their own narratives.
Accreditations and professional development
I am an accredited trainer in Therapeutic Storywriting Groups and work with the Centre for Therapeutic Storywriting as an independent trainer.
I have completed the ‘Essential Supervision Skills’ course recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS), and I both provide and receive regular professional supervision.
Membership and registration
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a member of the Association of Educational Psychologists (AEP), and a Chartered Educational Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
I keep up to date with professional research and developments through ongoing training, reading, and professional networks.
